For 25 years, Dr. Sebenick has practiced as a Licensed Clinical Psychologist. The LCP title is the regulated professional designation in Virginia for a provider who has earned the highest level of education in psychology (the study of human behavior), completed supervised training, passed state and national licensing exams, and completes annual continuing education in the field. Among other functions, psychologists focus on assessment of behavioral-health issues, treatment of problems, and enhancement of social-emotional functioning across an wide range of human development.
Dr. Sebenick earned her doctoral degree in Counseling Psychology at the University of Maryland-College Park. As a field of study, counseling psychology pays attention to both typical developmental issues as well as problems related to disorders. Counseling psychologists look at the whole person, in the context of a deep understanding of human development (including vocational, educational, social, and mental growth), individual and organizational behavior, and cultural identity. Having worked as a career counselor, trainer, and instructor in university and government settings, Dr. Sebenick established an independent private practice in Northern Virginia, beginning in 2001. She is a member of the American Psychological Association, Virginia Academy of Clinical Psychologists, and Northern Virginia Clinical Psychologists (where she serves on the Board of Directors). Volunteer service has always been important to her, and she has worked in community-building, social service, leadership, and educational roles in a variety of nonprofit organizations.
